Road Trip Tips and Tricks

ROAD TRIP - words superimposed over a shoreline

The Truman Park Blog is featuring a few of our favorite road trip tips to help you get out of Largo, MD and out on the road this month. We are highlighting the snacks, activities, and destinations you need to put together an excellent road trip. We hope that you get the chance to head out of your apartment and onto the road before the month is through!

Snacks

Put together a cooler of snacks before you head out on your road trip. Celery, peanut butter, carrots, snap peas, blueberries, and apple slices all make great road trip snacks. Restock your supplies on the road by heading to local grocery stores, farmer’s markets and fruit stands. Bring along a loaf of bread and bagels for an easy lunch. Save your food budget for local restaurants and eateries; try not to waste your money on fast food stops.

Activities

Have everyone in the car put together a road trip playlist and go through the playlists as you drive. Pick up a couple of audiobooks from the local library or use Audible to listen through a new read. Play a road trip game or two during your trip to help pass the time and give you an opportunity to bond with your fellow travelers.

Destinations

Use Roadtrippers to help plan your road trip. You can plan your route and lodging and find a wonderful guide to sites in the area on the website. Visit Maryland has a wonderful guide to Maryland road trips if you’d like to try something in-state. We think that the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal seems very exciting: “Following the canal 236 miles from Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, this byway is a wonderland for outdoors enthusiasts and historians alike. The scenery is stunning, and the canal provides great opportunities for hiking from flat to extreme; scenic and safe bicycling; paddling adventures, and you can even catch a ride on a mule-drawn canal barge.”
