Fall Farmer's Market

Truman Park Blog, Largo, MD Head to your local farmer's market for some fall essentials and treats this month!

As the seasons change, head outdoors for some of the freshest local food. South of Largo, about a half hour, is the Bowie Maryland farmer’s market. The market is held in the High School parking lot, located at 15200 Annapolis Rd. in Bowie. Every Sunday from 8 am to noon, between May 15th and October 30th, come stock up on your favorite local produce.

About 20 minutes Northwest of Largo is the Cheverly Community farmer’s market.  The website says, “The Cheverly Community Market was founded in 2007. Local resident Crystal Lal and a small group of committed friends and neighbors wanted to have access to good, fresh food in the neighborhood and develop relationships with local growers and producers. Finding locally grown food in Cheverly has been a great challenge. We've grown accustomed to trips to distant farmer's markets and CSAs, but soaring fuel prices and a growing awareness of the importance of being a ‘locavore’ created a desire for a farmer's market within walking distance of most Cheverly homes. That interest in a deeper relationship with and understanding of locally sourced food led the group to form the Cheverly Community Market.”

The market takes place every other Saturday from 8 am to noon, at the Cheverly Community Center 6401 Forest Road.Bring your fresh finds indoors to add to your favorite dish. Replacing grocery store produce with farmer’s market produce is a great way to ensure you’re buying local and supporting farmers and artisans from the area.
